NEWVILLE. . . Myrtle Blankenship Brannon, a resident of County Road 7, Newville, AL, died early Saturday morning, April 28, 2012, at her home. She was 95.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, April 30, 2012, in the Old Center United Methodist Church Cemetery, near Newville, with Reverend Kenneth Preston officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary in Headland.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 104 Rock Bridge Road, Dothan, AL 36303.
Mrs. Brannon was born and reared in the Bertha community of Dale County, daughter of the late James Grady Blankenship and Minnie Belle Barefield Blankenship. She lived in the Old Center community of Henry County most of her adult lifetime. Mrs. Brannon and her late husband, James Oliver Brannon, formerly owned and operated J.O. Brannon Grocery, near Newville. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Richard Davenport, two sisters, Melba Brannon and Gail Herring, five brothers, Dan Blankenship, Marvette Blankenship, Jack Blankenship, Gerald Blankenship and Bill Blankenship.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Suzanne Brannon Davenport, Newville; a granddaughter, Dana L. Davenport Douglas, GA; two sisters, Bernell Nowlin, Headland; and Shirley Davis, Wichita, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Martha Ratliff and Bonnie Blankenship; brothers-in-law, Roscoe Brannon and Ralph Herring; numerous nieces and nephews.
