NINA BLALOCK WEEMS

PENSACOLA, FLORIDA. . .Nina Blalock Weems, a resident of Pensacola, Florida, formerly of Abbeville, Alabama, died Saturday morning, May 5, 2012, in the Creekside Senior Village in Pensacola. She was 72.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, May 7, 2012, in the Clopton United Methodist Church, Clopton, Alabama, with Reverend Kenneth Preston officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary, Abbeville, Alabama is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Monday in the church sanctuary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Olive Baptist Church, 1836 Olive Road, Pensacola, Florida 32514 or to the National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, P. O. Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018.

Nina Weems was born and reared in Abbeville, Alabama, daughter of the late Will Long Blalock and Vallie Tate Blalock. She was married on July 3, 1960 in the Calvary Baptist Church in Abbeville. Nina lived in various locations while her husband served in the U.S. Navy and moved to Pensacola in 1972. She was a member of the Olive Baptist Church, the ladies Bible Study Group and enjoyed the fellowship of their Sunday School class at the church. After moving to Pensacola, Nina returned to school and earned a college degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of West Florida. She worked for many years as a substitute teacher in the Escambia County School System. Nina loved her family and although she was proud of the career opportunities that took her children to other parts of the country, she was happiest when all the family was home to visit. She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Jerome Weems, Jr. and a brother, Hugh Long Blalock.

Surviving relatives include a daughter, Shannon Weems Anderson and husband, Randall, Davis, CA; a son, Max Jerome Weems, III, Bremerton, WA; a brother, Dan Blalock, Sr. and wife, Earnestine, Abbeville; two grandchildren, Evan Tate Anderson and David Scott Anderson.
