ABBEVILLE….Joseph Michael (Mike) Money, a resident of Abbeville, died Monday afternoon, May 14, 2012, in a Dothan hospital. He was 51.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 16, 2012, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Thomas D. Gamble and Reverend Mickey Skinner officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery-East. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:00 P.M. Wednesday at the mortuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Aaliyah and Haley Scoggins Memorial Fund, c/o Wells Fargo Bank, 513 Kirkland Street, Abbeville, Al. 36310 or to Hickory Grove Free Will Baptist Church, c/o Susie Blalock, 570 Hickory Grove Road, Abbeville, Al. 36310.
Mike Money was a native of Dothan but lived his entire lifetime in Abbeville. Affectionately nicknamed “Jay Bird”, he was a 1978 graduate of Abbeville High School where he excelled in sports which included baseball and golf and was voted most valuable player at Abbeville High School for two years. Mike also attended Wallace Community College. He was employed with his father in the operation of Money Motors in Abbeville. Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joe and Lula Money and Tommy and Mamie Dell Johnson and a special aunt, Peggy Whitehead Money and step-granddaughters, Aaliyah and Haley Scoggins.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Kimberly Anne Hall Money, Abbeville; a daughter, Kandace Money Scoggins and husband, Jeremy, Abbeville; his parents, Hawley and Mary Ann Johnson Money, Abbeville; two grandchildren, Kyli Baxter and Kade Scoggins; two step-daughters, Ashlie Chambers and fiancé, Todd Terry, Dothan; and Kristina White, Tampa, FL; two step-sons, Joseph (JoJo) Cook, Abbeville; and John Tice, Dothan; six step-grandsons; several aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Brendt Murphy, Robert Bugg, Mickey Skeen, Jo Jo Money, Clay Money, Walter Gay, Ronnie Spivey and Chris Money. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Abbeville High School Class of 1978.
