LANNY WAYNE LONG

MIDLAND CITY. . . Lanny W. (Buck) Long, a resident of Midland City, died Wednesday evening, May 30, 2012, in a Dothan hospital. He was 57.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, June 3, 2012, in the Cedar Grove Baptist Church, near Midland City, with Reverend Benny Cole officiating. Burial will follow in the Christian Hill Cemetery, near Echo. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Saturday at the mortuary in Headland. At other times the family will be at the home of his mother, Martha Long, in the Christian Hill community.

Mr. Long was born in Crestview, Florida and was reared in the Christian Hill community of Dale County. He lived in the Sylvan Grove community of Dale County since 1975. Mr. Long attended Dale County High School and was a 1974 graduate of Headland High School. He was employed by Higgins Electric Company in Dothan as an electric motor technician. Mr. Long was an active member of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church where he served as the sound board technician. He was a member of the TOPS Weight Loss Group and was an avid Alabama football fan. Mr. Long was preceded in death by his father, Max Long.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Anna Brannon Long, Midland City; two daughters, Candice Caputo and husband, Jason, Marianna, FL, Melanie Shealy and husband, Corey, Dothan; his mother, Martha Avant Long, Echo; three grandchildren, Cole Shealy, Emma Shealy and Conor Caputo; four sisters, Jackie Goding and husband, Bill, Beverly, MA, Janet Skipper and husband, Mike, Echo, Judy Peterman and husband, Wayne, Dothan, Jerri Lesser and husband, Jeff, Lincoln, AL; one brother, Ranny Long and wife, Debra, Echo; sisters-in-law from the Brannon family, Brenda Morgan, Ashford, Jackie Moring and husband, Keith, Dothan, and Pat Langdon and husband, Scott, Phenix City; several nieces and nephews.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Chad Welch, James Walden, Harry Smith, Darrell Glass, Ed Thomas and David Deese.
